Tien Time
527157da1bf1a.png

Credit to Plague von Karma for the information provided in this thread, especially Usage Stats :)
Approved by Lutra
This thread is for the preservation of the former metagames of XY, which ended in November 21st 2014 when ORAS was released internationally. This thread will include Usage Stats from the last tier shift before ORAS was implemented and tier lists, viability rankings before the end of XY, Teams (If applicable), and Team Compendiums (if applicable). sets for each Pokemon of the tier may also be added in the future. If there are any errors, please report them to me and I will fix them. much of my information was obtained from the old gen 6 discussion subforums from the time, particularly Viability Rankings and Sample Teams, and is instrumental in recreating XY FU.

These Mega-Evolutions are not available in XY

*Note: the actual tier list of PU and ZU is not currently fully known, since much of XY ZU (FU at the time) did not get preserved and PU did not have usage stats available on the September shifts, what is shown here is merely an approximation of what the lists of the time were like.
**Note: Monotype's banlist on the wayback only goes as far back as december 1st, 2014, which was after ORAS was officially implemented into smogon. the banlist is possibly outdated, but it is the closest you can get.

Inspiration for these sections comes from threads such as the Old Gens RU and UU hubs
:xy/landorus: :xy/greninja: :xy/charizard-mega-x:
Differences from ORAS:
Shadow Tag and Arena Trap aren't banned
Baton Pass is limited to one pokemon per team
Several notable megas such as Mega-Swampert and Mega-Metagross did not exist yet

S Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that are amazing in the OU metagame. These Pokemon are usually able to perform a variety of roles effectively, or can just do one extremely well. Their use has low risk involved and high reward exerted. Pokemon in this rank have very few flaws that are patched up by numerous positive traits.

D Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that are mediocre in the OU metagame, but are viable enough to justify their use on select teams. These Pokemon are either usable but have no real niche, or are only capable of doing their specific task and fail at doing anything more than that. Pokemon from this rank have multiple crippling flaws that prevent them from being successful a majority of the time, and are often severely outclassed because of it.

Differences from ORAS:
Arena Trap is not banned
Baton Pass is limited to one pokemon per team

S Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that are almost flawless in the UU metagame. These Pokemon are usually able to perform a variety of roles effectively, or can just do one extremely well. Their use has low risk involved and almost always brings a high reward. Pokemon in this rank have very few flaws that are more than made up for by numerous positive traits.

S Rank:
Reserved for Pokemon who can sweep or wall significant portions of the metagame with little support, and Pokemon who can support other Pokemon with very little opportunity cost ("free turns"). Also the home of Pokemon who can easily perform multiple roles effectively, increasing their versatility and unpredictability. If the Pokemon in this rank have any flaws, those flaws are thoroughly mitigated by their substantial strengths.

A Rank
:
Reserved for Pokemon who can sweep or wall significant portions of the metagame, but require some support or have some flaws that prevents them from doing this consistently. Supporting Pokemon in this rank may give opponents free turns or cannot create free turns easily themselves, but can still do their job most of the time.

B Rank:
Reserved for Pokemon who cannot sweep through or wall significant portions of the metagame, but can properly fulfill a given offensive/defensive niche. Support Pokemon in this category have flaws that prevent them from doing their job or are setup bait for dangerous sweepers. Pokemon who are partially outperformed by a Pokemon in A or S Rank, but are otherwise very dangerous, may also fall into this category.

S-RANK
Reserved for the top threats in the Doubles metagame. The Pokemon in this tier are able to perform multiple roles to tremendous effect, whilst having few to no flaws. Support Pokemon in this tier can easily create free turns for their teammates without creating clear openings for the opponent. Any flaws that these Pokemon have can be taken care of with little to no team support.

Reserved for Pokemon that function very well within the current Doubles metagame. The Pokemon in this tier are either able to perform multiple roles to great effect, or execute one extremely well. Support Pokemon in this tier can create free turns, but not as easily as those in the S Rank. The flaws that the Pokemon in this tier may have are usually mitigated by their positive traits, or with minimal team support.

Reserved for Pokemon that fit well in the Doubles metagame, but they have notable flaws that prevent them from filling their role to the fullest extent. The Pokemon in this tier are either predictable, require some team support to work to it's full potential, or are at disadvantageous match-ups against some common threats. The flaws that the Pokemon in this tier have are mostly mitigated by their positive traits.

There is virtually zero opportunity cost in using these Pokemon. They barely require support, if any, from the team and have immense utility to offer.

This thread is open again, sorry for that. Monotype is added!
although monotype seems like it deleted most of its XY stuff or updated it after ORAS was released, I could get some useful information from wayback though. the banlist is a problem since it only goes back as far as december 1st, which was after ORAS got implemented to smogon, but it might still mostly be good.

XY Monotype (WIP)*
:xy/kyurem-white: :xy/aegislash: :xy/genesect:
S Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that can easily play a role against a majority of type matchups with ease, meaning it will never be useless in any matchup. These Pokemon need little to no support (which can be easily given) for them to do their job (Both Defensive and Offensive). They are easy to bring in and out, and often with little to no risk (Mostly Defensive). They can fulfill a ton of roles depending on what you need. These Pokemon define the metagame.

A Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that have S rank qualities, but need support (which can be easily given) in order for them to be successful. These Pokemon can play a role against most type matchups, but they may be hard walled by 1-2 types. However, these Pokemon are mostly used for one or two of their sets meaning that they can be predictable. These Pokemon influence the Metagame.

C Rank: Reserved for Pokemon that are only used to check a threat once or twice. These Pokemon often run unorthodox sets since their primary niches are outclassed by other Pokemon. Since they run unorthodox sets some Pokemon can set up on them without fear. These Pokemon need a lot of support (which may be hard to give) for them to function. These Pokemon have a hard time adapting to the metagame.

Hello, i want to ask something about this. Is there any way to actually play XY tiers in any showdown server? Or a command for it? I'd like to make an XY circuit for tournaments and stuff, but for now i'd just have to trust people to not bring banned stuff. The ORAS builder having mons that didn't exist yet is a bit annoying but bearable, would be nice to have an XY builder somewhere tho. Thank you for your attention, cheers.

I may be wrong on this, but I believe you can make this possible with challenge commands. For example, this is for OU:

/challenge gen6ou @@@ -Metagross-Mega, -Beedrill-Mega, -Pidgeot-Mega, -Slowbro-Mega, -Steelix-Mega, -Sceptile-Mega, -Swampert-Mega, -Sharpedo-Mega, -Camerupt-Mega, -Altaria-Mega, -Glalie-Mega, -Latias-Mega, -Latios-Mega, -Lopunny-Mega, -Gallade-Mega, -Audino-Mega, -Diancie-Mega, +Landorus, +Greninja, +Arena Trap, +Shadow Tag

UU:

And so on and so forth.

(also I think I found UU Speed tiers)

If you ever get it going please let me know. Even if it’s super small I’d love to participate. Thanks :)
